Ogura Toast (Toast with Azuki Beans Paste)

100 g mashed sweeyened Adzuki Bean paste

  • 1 cup dried adzuki
  • 2 cups water
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Ogura Toast

  • 2 slices of bread
  • butter for spreading
  • ice cream or whipped cream as required


Making “Mashed sweetened Adzuki Bean Paste”:

Boil adzuki beans for 3 minutes in plenty of water.

Drain the hot water to remove the harsh taste.

Cook in 2 cups of fresh water over low heat for about 2 hours.

When beans are soft, add enough water to make 2 cups. Add sugar and salt. Cook until sugar is dissolved and beans are flavored. You can adjust bean’s softness as you prefer.

Place in bowl. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Toast bread in a toaster. Spread the butter and mashed sweetened Adzuki bean paste with ice cream or whipped cream.

Pancakes can be substituted for toast if preferred.
