Wash the drumstick leaves and drain.
Wash and rinse the dal and then put it in the pressure cooker.
Add the water and soak for an hour.
Add salt, turmeric powder, sugar and slit green chillies.
Cook in the pressure cooker till tender.
Heat oil in a kadhai.
Temper with dry chilli, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida and bay leaf.
Add the sliced onion and the drumstick leaves.
Stir on medium heat for about 1 ½ minutes.
Add the hot boiling dal and cook till the dal thickens.
Add pure ghee, stir and cover.
Switch off the gas and after about 2 minutes remove the lid.
Serve with rice or chapattis.
