Hearty Split Pea Sausage and Sweet Potato Soup

Cook Time 4 hours


  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 medium carrot, sliced
  • 4 stalks celery, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium sweet potato, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 cup split peas, yellow, dried; picked over and rinsed
  • 1 (14 oz) link sausage, Keilbasa, turkey Polska; sliced in coins
  • 2 (32 oz.) cartons chicken broth, (could sub with veggie broth)
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tsp ginger, ground
  • salt, to taste (optional)


  • In a slow cooker, add onions, carrots, celery, garlic, sweet potatoes, and split peas. Cover with broth. Add spices. Cook on high 4-6 hours until sweet potatoes are tender & soup reaches a thick consistency. If needed, cook an additional hour.
